Paris Catacombs, Paris, France
Beneath the romantic streets of Paris lies a labyrinth of tunnels known as the Catacombs. Originally disused quarries, these vast passageways were converted in the late 18th century to hold remains from the city’s overcrowded cemeteries. For about three decades, bones and skulls were transferred here, creating rooms and corridors lined with the dead. The atmosphere is heavy with history, and the dim, echoing tunnels make the Catacombs one of the city’s most chilling attractions.
