The Shangri-La Hotel in central Tokyo will host a special Ministry of Crab pop-up in collaboration with chef and television personality Dharshan Munidasa from September 25–28. The exclusive five-course menu highlights fresh Sri Lankan crab and local seafood, presented with a Japanese touch. Signature dishes include Pepper Crab finished with a sauce seasoned with hand-crushed and whole black peppercorns; Crab Liver Paté; and Garlic Chili Crab served on kade bread and prepared with Italian olive oil, garlic, Sri Lankan chili flakes and Japanese soy sauce.
Chef Munidasa’s Ministry of Crab has been touring internationally with appearances in London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and the Maldives. The Tokyo pop-up will take place at The Pavilion on Level 27 of the Shangri-La Hotel and will offer four seatings each evening, accommodating 20 guests per seating at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The prix fixe price is JPY 18,000 per person (approximately $162), excluding beverages.
In addition to the pop-up, the hotel recently opened L’Aperitivo, a bar and dining venue focused on Italian-style pre-dinner drinks and small plates. The menu features Sicilian arancini, classic Italian meatballs, Parma ham, house-cured sardines and marinated eggplant. Beverage options include a curated selection of Italian wines and cocktails such as the Melo-ni, a take on Harry’s Bar’s classic with a Tokyo twist, and a Spritz made with Aperol, Prosecco, pink grapefruit and tonic.
This collaboration brings Sri Lankan seafood flavors together with Japanese ingredients and techniques, offering diners a concise but memorable dining experience. Bookings are recommended due to limited seating and the event’s short run; pricing and availability are subject to change.
