The iconic Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. is set to reopen in summer 2015 after an extensive $125 million restoration. Originally designed by Italian architect Luigi Moretti in 1961, the property has been thoughtfully refreshed by designer Ron Arad to preserve its historic character while introducing modern comforts.
Approximately 95 percent of the hotel’s 343 upscale guestrooms offer views of the Potomac River, and about half of the rooms include private balconies. Premier accommodations feature five Diplomat Suites and two Presidential Suites. Guestrooms are appointed with plush bedding, floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms and advanced in-room technology. A dedicated smartphone app allows guests to control many aspects of their stay for convenience and personalization.
Dining and entertainment options have been expanded to appeal to a variety of tastes. The hotel will offer a casual restaurant with outdoor seating, a fine-dining restaurant and a whiskey-focused bar. A rooftop venue provides sweeping 360-degree views of the river, a fire pit and bottle service options, creating an atmosphere suited for both relaxed evenings and special events.
Wellness and event facilities are significant features of the property. Guests will have access to a spa and fitness center, plus a 15-yard indoor swimming pool for year-round leisure. For meetings and celebrations, the hotel offers 17,000 square feet of flexible function space capable of accommodating a wide range of events, from intimate gatherings to larger conferences.
The renovation balances the Watergate’s distinctive architectural identity with contemporary amenities, making it a refreshed destination for travelers seeking both history and modern luxury in the nation’s capital.
