W Boston Reveals Redesigned Suites With Bold New Twist

The W Boston has unveiled a full redesign of its welcome area and suites, drawing inspiration from the city’s storied history of rebellion. While Boston is often associated with its academic institutions and historic landmarks, the hotel highlights a grittier, more provocative side rooted in both intellectual and insurgent traditions.

The redesigned spaces pay tribute to local legends and historical figures through a contemporary, thoughtful design language that references Edgar Allan Poe, the Massachusetts militia, and Boston’s influential rock scene of the 1970s and 1980s. W Boston collaborated with rising talents in the design world alongside the brand’s own creative team to craft a cohesive vision that merges past and present.

Small, deliberate touches of rebellion appear throughout the suites: smoked glass, faux-charred wood finishes, and angular silhouettes echo motifs from Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. Signature accommodations like the Presidential Extreme Wow, Vice Presidential Wow, and Marvelous suites celebrate the city’s rock ’n’ roll heritage—an era when artists challenged social norms much like Boston’s earlier political dissenters. Vibrant color accents reference stage costumes and leather jackets, introducing bold visual pops that interrupt more restrained backgrounds.

Balancing those edgier elements, the rooms also offer soft, comforting materials in pillows and throws to ensure warmth and livability. Furniture details nod to the Boston Tea Party with clean, crisp lines, while select decorative pillows feature literary quotes such as “What hath night to do with sleep?” that connect the aesthetic back to the hotel’s narrative inspirations.

The Extreme Wow Suite stands as the property’s largest and most sought-after accommodation, featuring custom pieces like a deconstructed Windsor chair and a chandelier designed to evoke timber collapsing from a blaze. Dark oak and walnut floors, sourced from traditional wood varieties, are contrasted with bright white walls to create a striking visual balance. Smoked glass elements—referencing the early conflicts of the Revolutionary era—recur in faux-charred end tables and subtle gold flecks, while dramatic murals by Spanish artist Antonio Mora draw on imagery of smoke, fire, and themes from The Raven.

“From a historic revolutionary past to a modern rock and roll edge, Boston is a city famous for rebellious thinking,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels. “The new welcome area and suites at W Boston not only speak to the history of the city, but also to the disruptive spirit of the W brand. They are as playful as they are posh.”

The redesign positions W Boston as a destination that celebrates the city’s dual identity: a place of intellectual achievement and a stage for creative rebellion. Guests experience a layered environment that honors heritage while embracing contemporary design sensibilities—where literary references, political symbolism, and musical energy converge in comfortable, stylish accommodations.
