Virgin Australia, marking the 10th anniversary of its international operations, has expanded its global network through several new codeshare agreements. The airline has added its VA code to a number of partner-operated routes to broaden connectivity for its customers.
Under the new arrangements, Virgin Australia now places its VA code on Delta Air Lines flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA) and between Los Angeles (LAX) and Boston (BOS). In addition, Etihad Airways services from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Zurich (ZRH), Rome (FCO), Minsk (MSQ) and Medina (MED) will carry the VA code, increasing options for passengers traveling between Australia and Europe and the Middle East. Singapore Airlines flights to Athens (ATH) and Brunei (BWN) have also been included in the expanded codeshare offering.
The announcement commemorates a decade since the carrier operated its inaugural international service, the Brisbane (BNE)–Christchurch (CHC) route. Since that first flight, Virgin Australia has grown its international schedule to serve 16 destinations directly and now provides access to an extensive global network of 386 codeshare destinations through its alliance and partner agreements.
The expanded codeshare partnerships are designed to give travellers more seamless itineraries, increased frequency options and smoother connections when booking with Virgin Australia. By placing its VA code on select partner flights, the airline can offer customers a wider choice of routes and convenient one-ticket itineraries that combine Virgin Australia services with partner carriers.
These developments reflect Virgin Australia’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its international reach by leveraging partnerships rather than solely expanding its own long-haul fleet. Codeshares like these typically allow passengers to earn and redeem frequent flyer benefits across participating carriers, subject to each airline’s program rules and fare class eligibility.
As the carrier celebrates ten years of international flying, the additional codeshare destinations further integrate Virgin Australia into a global network that connects Australia to major cities in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Passengers are encouraged to check Virgin Australia’s booking channels or contact customer service for the latest schedule, fare options and code-share details for specific flights.
