Villa Aquamare: Luxury Waterfront Villa Rental in British Virgin Islands

Arrival/Check-In: Arriving at Villa Aquamare feels more like coming home to a private Caribbean estate than a traditional check-in. My husband and I flew into Virgin Gorda on Air Sunshine from San Juan, taxiing along a sandy runway with ocean on one side and dunes on the other. The single-story wooden terminal houses Customs and Immigration for the British Virgin Islands. After a warm welcome from a friendly immigration officer, our host, William Matthews, met us. His relaxed, welcoming manner made the transition to island time effortless. William even stopped at a local market so we could pick up provisions for our four-night stay, helped carry our bags into the villa and assisted with stocking the refrigerator and cabinets.

Guest Quarters: The accommodations at Villa Aquamare are exceptional. The property consists of three interconnected 8,000-square-foot structures with five private bedrooms, linked by meandering walkways and lush landscaping. This layout is ideal for family reunions, groups of friends or corporate retreats. Each of the five bedrooms spans roughly 1,000 square feet and includes a sitting area, an outdoor balcony—three of which offer expansive ocean views—and spacious bathrooms designed for luxury and privacy. Each bathroom features a separate outdoor shower and high-end touches such as Frette linens, plush towels and robes. Local stonework and rich hardwoods throughout the villa reinforce the Caribbean setting, while travertine marble and quality bath products provide added elegance.

Guests can enjoy solitude in their private suites or gather in a large ground-floor living area that includes a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, a dining room that seats up to 12 and a comfortable living room with floor-to-ceiling doors that open to create a true indoor-outdoor experience. Outdoors, a private plunge pool and multiple seating areas with chaise lounges and tables offer comfortable spaces for relaxation, socializing and sunset viewing.

Services and Amenities: William, the resident host, combines neighborly warmth with professional management to ensure a seamless stay. He attends to details guests might not notice, from fresh towels to properly stocked supplies. There is no on-site restaurant, but the villa’s kitchen makes self-catering easy. For a more indulgent option, guests can hire a private chef. During our stay, Chef Tridick Chet Peters prepared two memorable dinners. He arrived fully prepared with a three-course menu, set a candlelit table on our patio and left the kitchen spotless. His private dinner service was competitively priced at $75 per person (excluding wine); a full daily meal plan is available for $130 per person.

The Experience: Villa Aquamare is a luxurious escape that delivers privacy, comfort and memorable service. Rates vary by season, averaging around $25,000 per week during peak periods. For groups booking all five bedrooms, weekly rates can be substantially lower—offering a cost-effective option for vacations, family gatherings or corporate retreats.
