U.S. travelers can now use ePassport gates when entering the United Kingdom. Citizens of seven countries, including the United States and Canada, will benefit from shorter queues and quicker processing through automated ePassport gates upon arrival.
Residents returning home will also see an improved flow through customs. Eligible travelers are exempt from filling out a landing card, which simplifies and speeds up the arrival process and reduces time spent at border control.
With the expanded eligibility for ePassport gates, VisitBritain expects an increase in arrivals and spending. The tourism agency forecasts that around 3.9 million visitors could travel to the UK this year, with potential spending of up to $4.25 billion, reflecting the United States’ status as a high-value inbound market.
