The 800-year-old Tuscan borgo of Montaione, which served as a filming location for Roberto Benigni’s 2007 movie Pinocchio, has been fully restored and transformed into an exceptional resort. Now known as Toscana Resort Castelfalfi, the property centers on the borgo’s historic castle, which houses a gourmet restaurant and a bar.
Accommodation options include the 31-room La Tabaccaia boutique hotel, where original beams and tiled ceilings have been preserved, a selection of elegant villas, and 41 private apartments. Each space has been sympathetically refurbished to retain the character of the original buildings while offering contemporary comforts.
Modern amenities in the apartments include underfloor heating and cooling, fully equipped kitchens with Miele appliances, and floors finished in terracotta, oak, and natural stone. Bathrooms are fitted with travertine and marble, complemented by glass features and Hansgrohe rain showers.
Conveniently located about 40 minutes from Pisa and roughly an hour from Florence, the resort offers extensive on-site facilities: four swimming pools, 11 boutique shops, and the 27-hole Golf Club Castelfalfi. The estate also includes substantial agricultural areas — 99 acres of olive groves and 57 acres of vineyards that produce several labels, including Chianti DOCG.
