Turkish Airlines Introduces Wireless In-Flight Entertainment System

Turkish Airlines has become the first carrier to introduce a wireless in-flight entertainment system that lets passengers stream content directly to their personal devices, even on aircraft without seat-back screens. The system is being deployed initially across the airline’s 44 narrow-body aircraft and increases the share of the fleet offering in-flight entertainment to 95 percent.

Passengers can access the wireless entertainment by downloading the designated Wi-Fi entertainment application onto their mobile device before boarding. The service is also available on laptops using the Google Chrome browser.

The content library includes more than 250 movies, 700 television episodes, 2,000 music albums and 19,000 tracks, providing a wide selection of entertainment for passengers across different tastes and age groups.

Improving the passenger experience

M. Ilker Ayci, chairman of the board and executive committee of Turkish Airlines, commented on the launch: “We are proud to be the first users of this groundbreaking ‘Wireless In-Flight Entertainment System’ and believe that this is a very important step for the development of Turkish Civil Aviation. We continuously strive to make our passengers’ entire journey more enjoyable with our passenger satisfaction focused approach, and are pleased to increase the availability of in-flight entertainment system in our fleet to 95% with this launch. Passengers will be able to connect to a Wi-Fi network on their personal electronic devices and view media content specifically designed for this system.”

How it works

The wireless system streams content over an onboard Wi‑Fi network, removing the need for physical seat-back screens while maintaining a full entertainment offering. Users simply connect to the aircraft’s entertainment network and launch the app or open the compatible browser tab to begin streaming. This setup reduces weight and maintenance associated with built-in screens and allows the airline to provide a consistent entertainment experience across more aircraft.

Benefits and availability

By shifting to a wireless delivery method, Turkish Airlines can expand entertainment availability more quickly across its fleet and offer a modern, flexible service that aligns with the growing use of personal electronic devices in travel. The initial rollout on narrow-body aircraft increases the percentage of planes equipped with entertainment options to 95 percent, benefiting passengers on both short- and medium-haul routes.

The system’s broad media catalog and device-agnostic access aim to make in-flight time more enjoyable and productive for business and leisure travelers alike, while simplifying onboard hardware requirements for the airline.
