TSA PreCheck is available for passengers departing from a U.S. airport on both domestic flights and outbound international trips. Eligible travelers—U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents—can apply for enrollment. The program fee is $85 for a five-year membership, which breaks down to approximately $17 per year.
Currently offered at more than 155 U.S. airports, TSA PreCheck streamlines the security process. Members benefit from shorter lines and simpler procedures, including remaining in shoes and belts, and keeping laptops and approved liquids in carry-on bags during screening. These conveniences can significantly reduce wait times and the stress commonly associated with airport security checkpoints.
Adding major international carriers to the TSA PreCheck roster increases the program’s utility for travelers who connect through U.S. hubs or begin their journeys in the United States. For frequent flyers, business travelers, and families, the broader airline participation improves consistency across itineraries and helps ensure a smoother transit experience when traveling to domestic or international destinations.
Enrollment requires a background check and an in-person appointment for identity verification and fingerprinting. Once approved, members receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) that they add to their flight reservations to access the PreCheck lanes.
