The Lindis opened late last year on New Zealand’s South Island as the newest luxury lodge in the country. Set within the Ahuriri Valley conservation park, the property’s architecture follows the natural contours of the land, creating a design-focused retreat that celebrates its setting amid rugged mountains, wetlands and beech forest.
Outdoor activities are central to the experience at The Lindis. Guests can choose from hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, horseback riding and gliding, as well as guided and self-guided eco-tours. The Ahuriri Valley supports a wide variety of native and introduced plants and wildlife, and tours highlight the valley’s diverse flora and fauna while connecting visitors with the surrounding landscape.
With minimal light pollution, the lodge is also well suited to astrotourism. The remote location and clear night skies make it an excellent place for star-gazing and enjoying the Milky Way.
The first stage of accommodations opened in November, featuring a collection of individual glass pods designed to maximize views of the night sky, alongside five private lodge suites. Three additional suites are scheduled to open later this year. Interior and exterior design draws on the local environment, incorporating natural stone and timber to blend the buildings into the landscape and provide a warm, organic aesthetic.
Daily menus focus on refined, healthful cuisine made from abundant local produce. The culinary program emphasizes seasonal ingredients and simple, thoughtful preparations that showcase the region’s flavors.
