Arrival/Check-In: I missed my connecting flight to Los Angeles and arrived at LAX much later than planned. Fortunately, The Georgian, where I stayed for three nights, is conveniently located in Santa Monica and an easy taxi ride from the airport. After 11 p.m. in Los Angeles felt much later to this East Coaster, I appreciated the quick, no-fuss check-in. Within minutes I was in the elevator up to my eighth-floor suite and asleep shortly after.
Guest Quarters: The Georgian is an Art Deco landmark on Ocean Avenue. Along with comfortable accommodations, its waterfront location gives direct access to Santa Monica’s attractions. I didn’t fully explore the suite until the next morning, but the layout and light made a strong impression.
My two-room suite opened into a short hallway. Immediately to the right was one entrance to the bathroom. Further in, a small minibar led to the living area, which included a sofa and coffee table, a chaise lounge, a small table, and an entertainment center with a flat-screen TV. Large windows provided pleasant views of Santa Monica and the surrounding area.
A second entrance to the spacious bathroom was available through the bedroom. The bathroom featured an ample countertop and a tub/shower combo. The bedroom, reached through double French doors from the living room, had a comfortable king-sized bed with two nightstands, a chair and ottoman, and a second stand with a flat-screen TV. During my stay I used the living room as a work area, enjoying the natural light and the roomy sofa. While the building’s historic lobby preserves its original character rather than a modern aesthetic, the guest accommodations feel updated and comfortable.
Services/Amenities: On my first morning I checked out the on-site fitness center. It’s compact but well-equipped for a solid workout. On day two the ocean drew me out, and I took advantage of the beach path directly across the street for a walk and jog.
I also had breakfast at Veranda Restaurant with a colleague. We sat outside, worked a bit, and prepared for the day; we didn’t try the signature French toast soufflé, but the menu includes indoor seating and options for lunch, dinner, and tapas. The hotel also offers event space and a speakeasy-style bar.
The Experience: Opened in 1933, The Georgian Hotel combines historic charm with a central Santa Monica location. The property is pet-friendly and welcomes guests traveling with cats or dogs.
