Starwood Opens First Hotel in Samoa: What Travelers Need to Know

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced the expansion of its Sheraton brand with two new hotel signings in Samoa, marking the company’s first properties in the country. Starwood has assumed management of the historic Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows and Aggie Grey’s Lagoon, Beach Resort & Spa on the island of Upolu, Samoa.

Both properties are undergoing extensive multimillion-dollar renovations and are scheduled to relaunch as the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort by mid-2014. The Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel is located about 45 minutes from Pago Pago International Airport (PPG) and sits near Apia, Samoa’s largest commercial center and capital. That property will offer 198 guestrooms and suites along with more than 17,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.

The Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort is on the west coast of Upolu, roughly five minutes from the airport, and will feature 140 guestrooms and suites with ocean views. Both resorts will include a signature restaurant and bar, a full-service casino, swimming pools and pool bars, offering guests a range of dining, entertainment and leisure options.

These signings extend Starwood’s presence in the Pacific region, where the company currently operates 14 properties: nine in Australia, three in Fiji and two in New Caledonia. The addition of the Sheraton Samoa properties strengthens Starwood’s portfolio and brings the Sheraton brand to Samoa for the first time.
