South by Southwest Festival Guide: Shows, Music, Films & Tips

Southwest Airlines has launched service to three Caribbean beach destinations, offering its first scheduled international flights. The carrier is now selling tickets on routes that connect U.S. gateways with Aruba (AUA), Nassau (NAS) and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).

Starting July 1, Southwest will operate daily nonstop service between Atlanta (ATL) and both Aruba and Montego Bay. From Baltimore/Washington (BWI), the airline will fly to Aruba, Nassau and Montego Bay, with Nassau receiving twice-daily flights. Orlando (MCO) will be linked to Aruba on Saturdays and to Montego Bay on a regular schedule.

Preparing for international operations required extensive coordination across Southwest’s workforce. Employees across many departments took part in training on new systems and procedures, and the airline completed regulatory and compliance steps necessary for cross‑border travel.

The new routes expand Southwest’s network into popular Caribbean leisure markets, offering more nonstop options for travelers seeking sun, beaches and regional culture. These additions also broaden travel choices for customers in Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando, providing direct access to well-known Caribbean destinations without connections.

Southwest’s initial international schedule focuses on reliability and frequency on high-demand nonstop corridors. By concentrating service from key U.S. hubs, the airline aims to compete on convenience and price for both vacationers and visiting friends and relatives.

As the carrier integrates international flights into its system, passengers can expect standard Southwest features such as open seating, two free checked bags on many fares (check current policy), and the airline’s familiar customer service approach. Travelers should review passport and entry requirements for Aruba, the Bahamas and Jamaica, and confirm any health or documentation rules that may apply at the time of travel.

These new nonstop routes are likely to influence travel planning for the summer season and beyond, giving travelers additional options for direct flights to three sought‑after Caribbean destinations.
