Sofitel New York has unveiled a new art exhibition in its lobby, open to the public and free to visit through October.
The exhibition celebrates the 75th anniversary of France-Amérique, the bilingual magazine that highlights French-American culture and lifestyle. On display are 20 original cover illustrations by French artist Olivier Tallec.
Olivier Tallec is widely recognized for his work in French publications, where his illustrations communicate clear, evocative ideas with a deceptively simple visual language. France-Amérique began in 1943 as a French-language newspaper during World War II and has evolved into the only French-English bilingual magazine published monthly in the United States.
“Using Olivier’s work, this exhibition underscores the enduring ties between French and American cultures, which are central to both the Sofitel and France-Amérique identities,” said Marie-Paule Nowlis, hotel manager at Sofitel New York. “We hope visitors, guests and locals alike will experience the collection and gain a deeper appreciation for the historic and cultural connections between these two nations.”
The lobby display offers an accessible opportunity to view contemporary French illustration and reflect on the long-standing cultural exchange celebrated by the magazine. Visitors can expect a curated selection that showcases Tallec’s signature style while honoring the magazine’s seven decades of publication.
Free and open to all, the exhibit provides a moment of cultural enrichment in a central Manhattan setting. Whether you are a fan of illustration, a reader of bilingual media, or simply curious about Franco-American relations, the show delivers a concise visual narrative of that shared history.
For those planning a visit, the lobby installation allows for casual viewing during hotel hours. The display is intended to engage a broad audience—hotel guests, local residents and visitors—inviting them to connect with the artistic interpretation of themes that have defined France-Amérique for 75 years.
By pairing Tallec’s contemporary illustrations with the magazine’s legacy, Sofitel New York highlights how art and journalism can together commemorate cultural milestones. The exhibition stands as both a tribute to a longstanding bilingual publication and a celebration of the creative dialogue between France and the United States.
