Sanctuary Retreats has unveiled the newly rebuilt Sanctuary Chief’s Camp in Botswana. The refreshed flagship property now operates as a luxurious safari camp featuring 10 newly constructed pavilions and an expansive suite. Situated on Chief’s Island in the renowned Moremi Game Reserve within the Okavango Delta—often called the “predator capital of Africa”—the camp offers a prime location for safari enthusiasts.
Each pavilion has been substantially enlarged and redesigned to enhance comfort and views. Guests will find private pools, outdoor seating areas, floor-to-ceiling bathroom windows, outdoor showers, and generously sized bathtubs. These upgraded pavilions provide an elevated blend of privacy and immersion in the surrounding wilderness.
The Geoffrey Kent Luxury Suite is designed for flexibility and groups, accommodating between two and six guests across two linked pavilions. The suite includes a private kitchen, indoor lounge, exclusive boma with a fire pit, and a secluded deck area. A dedicated team—chef, waiter, and housekeeper—ensures personalized service, and the suite comes with a private vehicle and guide for tailored game drives and excursions.
“We believe Sanctuary Chief’s Camp now takes the luxury safari experience in Botswana to new levels, with fabulous rooms, a superb location and exceptional service, game viewing and drives,” said Pieter van der Schee, global director sales and marketing, Sanctuary Retreats. Sanctuary Retreats emphasizes sustainable practices and worked with local craftsmen and authorities to reduce environmental impact while delivering natural, respectful luxury that complements the local surroundings.
Public areas have been given a refined safari-chic aesthetic. Enhancements include a new bar and library, an expanded dining room, an outdoor deck, and a pizza oven. An orientation room helps guests deepen their understanding of the Okavango Delta and its wildlife. Additional facilities now include a fitness center and a Children’s Retreat, catering to families and active travelers alike.
Environmental responsibility is a key feature of the redevelopment. A solar farm—one of the largest in Botswana—was installed to reduce the camp’s carbon footprint and minimize dependence on nonrenewable energy sources. This investment in sustainable infrastructure aligns with broader conservation efforts in the region.
Botswana’s appeal as a safari destination continues to grow, and this year the country celebrates its 50th year of independence. Sanctuary Chief’s Camp positions itself as a premier option for travelers seeking high-end safari experiences that combine luxury, conservation-minded design, and expert guiding.
Rates at Sanctuary Chief’s Camp start from $986 per person per night, based on a three-night stay for two guests. Prices are inclusive of meals, selected drinks, game activities, airstrip transfers, and park fees.
