Remède Spa at The St. Regis San Francisco — Luxury Spa & Treatments

My friend Megan and I were 30,000 feet in the air somewhere over the Midwest, heading to a girls’ getaway in San Francisco and Napa, when we glanced at each other and had the same thought. As close friends often do, we read one another’s minds: “We should get spa treatments while we are away.”

We had a full itinerary. I like to make the most of every trip, so I had planned a busy schedule. Still, there’s always room for a spa treatment—especially when travel is packed with sightseeing and walking.

After landing at San Francisco International Airport, we began to explore options and quickly discovered that the Remède Spa at The St. Regis San Francisco stood out. Fortunately, the spa could fit us in at 4 p.m., the only 90-minute window we had that afternoon. It felt like the stars were aligning: a short, restorative pause amid a whirlwind day.

We checked into the hotel and spent some time exploring San Francisco. We walked up six very steep blocks to Lombard Street—the famously curvy street—joking for the rest of the trip that we had scaled a mountain. After an easy walk down the hill, we had lunch in North Beach, wandered through Chinatown, and eventually made our way back to The St. Regis.

The Remède Spa’s reputation is easy to believe. The space is generous, the staff attentive and professional, and the decor is both elegant and calming. Megan chose a 60-minute customized massage, tailored to address specific tension areas using specialized products and techniques. I opted for the 60-minute Remède customized facial, a deep-cleansing treatment suitable for all skin types. Therapists assess concerns and tailor the facial to leave skin refreshed and radiant. These are among the spa’s most popular services; other offerings include the Urban Radiance Facial, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Facial, hot stone massages, body wraps and polishes, manicures, pedicures and waxing. All treatments use Laboratoire Remède skincare products.

The reception area sets the tone: predominantly white with black metal accents, clean and modern yet soothing. Shelves display high-quality skincare items available for purchase, and the subtle scent of candles adds to the welcoming atmosphere. That peaceful aesthetic continues throughout the facility.

After signing in, we were shown to the large locker room. After an early cross-country flight and a day of walking the city’s hills, slipping into plush robes and slippers felt wonderful. The locker room is well equipped with amenities for post-treatment showers and grooming, and the spa offers separate whirlpools, steam rooms and saunas for men and women, plus a co-ed infinity pool.

An attendant escorted us to the lounge, decorated in whites with pops of color. The hushed space felt like floating on a cloud. We settled onto a banquette with chilled Champagne while light snacks—cheeses, truffles—and fruit-infused water were available.

Both therapists arrived at once and led us to our treatment rooms. My facial began promptly. Extractions can be uncomfortable, but the immediate feel of cleansed skin and the post-treatment glow made it worthwhile. My therapist used a light, skillful touch, tapping pressure points and massaging my face. A mask felt heavy as it dried, but the cooling relief when it was removed was refreshing. Throughout the treatment she explained each step in a gentle whisper and focused on areas I mentioned—like dark under-eye circles—while working carefully to keep the experience relaxing. She also massaged my hands and feet, much appreciated after so much walking, and finished with a scalp massage as soothing music played in the background.

When I returned to the lounge, Megan looked completely relaxed and renewed. We sipped another glass of Champagne and savored the peaceful moment, trading notes about the treatments. Megan’s therapist had tailored her massage to her trouble spots and eased the tension she’d been carrying.

Her masseur even shared a recommendation for dinner: Waterbar, one of his favorite restaurants in the city. He praised its waterfront views and the sparkling lights of the Bay Bridge, suggesting it would be the perfect backdrop to extend our relaxed mood. Energized by the suggestion and ready to get dressed for our reservation, we left the lounge feeling refreshed and poised to enjoy the rest of our evening.
