Qatar Airways and Iberia have expanded their codeshare agreement to include new destinations across Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of the Qatar Airways Group, said the wider agreement is a natural extension of both carriers’ efforts to meet customer demand for a broader network and to strengthen their collaboration within the oneworld alliance. He added that Latin America is an important growth market for Qatar Airways, and the expanded partnership will give passengers from Qatar, the wider Middle East, South Asia and beyond improved access to rapidly growing cities across the region with smooth onward connections.
Luis Gallego, chairman and CEO of Iberia, said the expanded codeshare with oneworld partner Qatar Airways will offer customers more options for travel to the Middle East and Asia, benefiting both business and leisure travellers by increasing route flexibility and connectivity.
Members of both carriers’ frequent-flyer programs—Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Iberia Plus—will see enhanced access to each airline’s principal hubs: Hamad International Airport in Doha and Madrid Barajas International Airport Terminal 4. The broader network access aims to simplify transfers and improve travel choices for loyalty members.
The extension of codeshare services strengthens network coverage in key Latin American markets and supports passenger demand for one-stop connections between Europe, the Middle East, Asia and important cities in South and Central America. By combining Iberia’s established presence in Europe with Qatar Airways’ global reach, travellers can expect more convenient itineraries, coordinated schedules and a wider range of destinations served under the oneworld partnership.
Both airlines emphasized that the arrangement will focus on passenger convenience, offering more seamless connections, coordinated baggage handling and reciprocal frequent-flyer benefits where applicable. The move reflects a broader industry trend of strategic alliances and codeshare agreements designed to expand market presence and create a more integrated travel experience for international passengers.
The expanded codeshare also supports tourism and business travel between Latin America and the Middle East and Asia by increasing route options and improving connectivity through two major international hubs. As demand for transcontinental travel grows, the partnership is positioned to deliver improved flight choices, enhanced loyalty rewards opportunities and greater ease of travel for customers across both airlines’ networks.
