New Scottish Sleeper Trains Designed to Feel Like Boutique Hotels

The Caledonian Sleeper train that carries passengers overnight between London and Scotland is due for a significant upgrade next year, bringing a more hotel-like experience to overnight rail travel.

New carriages will introduce a range of enhanced amenities, including double beds, en suite bathrooms and upgraded comfort seats. Guests will enter rooms with hotel-style key cards, and each compartment will feature modern charging panels for devices. WiFi will be available throughout the train, making it easier for passengers to stay connected during their journey.

The service departs from London’s Euston Station and serves major Scottish destinations such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and Fort William, providing a convenient overnight alternative to flying.

The replacement carriages are undergoing testing in the Czech Republic ahead of their scheduled rollout in spring 2018.

The aim of the refurbishment is to ensure travelers arrive at their destinations well rested. “The Sleeper allows for plenty of time for a full day of work or play, before transporting you to and from the destinations we serve — without the hassle of flying,” said Peter Strachan, chairman of Caledonian Sleeper. He added that the service offers strong value compared with separate travel and accommodation options, and that the new onboard accommodation will enhance the overnight journey.

Alongside the new carriages, the company has been improving onboard catering with refreshed food and beverage options that draw on Scottish produce. Ticketing has also been upgraded and a new website has been launched to make booking and planning easier for passengers.
