MSC Cruises Global Expansion: New Routes, Ships, and Itineraries 2026

MSC Cruises is undertaking a major global expansion to strengthen its presence in the North American market. The plan includes a $12 billion investment to build 12 new ships by 2026, with two vessels scheduled to debut this year.

North America is the world’s largest source market for cruise passengers, and although MSC has traditionally focused on Europe, the company has long targeted growth in the United States. At present, MSC maintains a single ship based in Miami — MSC Divina. By 2019, the line added another larger ship, MSC Meraviglia, to expand its U.S. deployments.

MSC projects its fleet will grow to 26 ships by 2026, effectively tripling the company’s capacity in under a decade. This expansion positions MSC to compete more directly with established North American operators such as Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, all of which have deep roots in South Florida.

To stand out from competitors, MSC emphasizes innovative ship design and guest experiences. Newer vessels feature distinctive layouts that bring public spaces and pools closer to the waterline, creating an atmosphere more like a seaside condominium than a traditional cruise ship. These design choices aim to offer passengers a fresh, modern alternative in the crowded cruise market.
