Moxy Williamsburg Opens: Marriott’s First Brooklyn Hotel

Marriott’s Moxy brand has opened its first hotel in Brooklyn: Moxy Williamsburg. Designed by BASILE Studio in collaboration with Lightstone Design Studio, the property features four new dining and drinking venues created by Bar Lab Hospitality, the team behind New York’s popular Broken Shaker bar.

Located in the heart of Williamsburg, the hotel’s design nods to the neighborhood’s history as a magnet for artists, immigrants and independent thinkers, while positioning the hotel as a fresh social hub for Brooklyn’s contemporary scene.

“Moxy embraces bold, authentic self-expression, and Moxy Williamsburg is a place for free-spirited travelers to live in the moment,” said Matthew Boettcher, vice president and global brand leader, Moxy Hotels.

The 216-room hotel sits near the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge with easy access to Manhattan. Its architecture, light-filled rooms, clever space-saving solutions, flexible co-working and meeting studios, plus multiple restaurants and bars, reflect the casual, creative spirit of the neighborhood.

The 11-story building, by New York firm Stonehill Taylor, channels an industrial loft aesthetic with a glass-front façade that opens onto Bedford Avenue, blurring the line between interior and street. The southern façade features a prominent Pop Art-style mural by British street artist D*Face visible from the Williamsburg Bridge; the image shows a woman in a car calling out, “GET ME TO THE MOXY!!”

Inside, the lobby’s 20-foot exposed ceilings and natural materials evoke the feel of a converted warehouse. Hanging foliage and planters add warmth. Behind two blackened steel check-in pods, an art installation by Rare Culture—composed of thousands of colored crayons—creates a pointillist view of the underside of the Williamsburg Bridge at sunrise, looking toward the Manhattan skyline.

“Williamsburg is a flourishing hub for creativity and innovation,” said Mitchell Hochberg, president of Lightstone. “As the neighborhood’s reputation has grown, so has demand for places to stay. Our goal with Moxy Williamsburg was to create an authentic hotel experience that residents and visitors alike will embrace.”

Bar Lab Hospitality operates the hotel’s four dining and drinking venues. Mesiba is a lively Tel Aviv–inspired restaurant serving Levant-style dishes. Bar Bedford is an all-day café and destination cocktail bar. Jolene Sound Room is a high-energy music space with a cutting-edge audio and light system for DJs and live events. Opening this spring, LilliStar is a rooftop indoor/outdoor bar with a large terrace and sweeping views of the Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan skyline.

Bar Bedford features a dramatic motorized liquor display: blackened metal risers rise 20 feet behind glass and white oak panels to hold about 1,500 bottles. The moving shelves, which recall early 20th-century Automat cubbies, serve both a functional and theatrical role, allowing bartenders to access special bottles while entertaining guests. The hotel also includes three meeting studios designed for private events and co-working; the rooms can be combined for larger groups and open onto Bar Bedford Garden, an outdoor alfresco space at the rear of the building.

Guest rooms, filled with daylight from floor-to-ceiling windows, range from 165 to 210 square feet and include king, executive king, double queen and quad bunk configurations. Thoughtful storage and flexible furnishings maximize space: wall-mounted pegs fold open or closed, closets are open, under-bed cubbies provide storage, and a wall-mounted desk folds down to create a workspace.

Mesiba channels Tel Aviv’s vibrant energy and Bauhaus influences, serving flavorful Levantine dishes meant for sharing. Chef Eli Buli’s menu reinterprets traditional recipes from Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey, Palestine and the Eastern Mediterranean through a contemporary lens.

Jolene Sound Room brings a concert-club vibe with a state-of-the-art sound and lighting rig, attracting top talent from Brooklyn’s nightlife scene and providing a lively space for local and international DJs. The concept draws inspiration from Dolly Parton—her song “Jolene” and her image as a confident, influential figure in music culture informed the room’s name and attitude.

LilliStar, the rooftop bar opening this spring, blends Indo-Aussie beach culture with Brooklyn energy. It offers tropical-inspired cocktails, Balinese-style barbecue and dramatic skyline views through lounge windows that open onto an expansive roof deck.

“Williamsburg represents what’s most trendsetting about New York: edgy boutiques, inventive restaurants and daring bars,” Hochberg said. “Moxy Williamsburg lets guests stay in the neighborhood and experience its energy—dining at Mesiba, toasting the skyline at LilliStar, and dancing at Jolene Sound Room—without leaving the hotel.”

Room rates at Moxy Williamsburg start from $179 per night.
