Most and Least Relaxing Airports Around the World

Most travelers don’t associate airports with relaxation, yet some airports are noticeably calmer and more pleasant than others.

According to a recent study by MyVoucherCodes, Germany’s Cologne Bonn Airport ranks as the world’s most relaxing airport. The U.K.-based discount and deals site analyzed more than 80 of the busiest airports globally, evaluating factors such as queue lengths, lounge prices, on-time performance, passenger sentiment and overall service quality.

Cologne Bonn stood out with a 9.5 out of 10 score for on-time performance, a four out of five rating for queue times, and an 8.2 out of 10 for passenger sentiment. The airport also scored 7.8 out of 10 for quality of service, demonstrating a strong balance of efficiency and positive traveler experience.

The rest of the top five included Japan’s Kansai International Airport, Germany’s Stuttgart Airport, Athens International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport. Other airports that made the top 10 were Helsinki Airport, Zürich Airport, Qatar’s Hamad International Airport, Brasilia International Airport and India’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

By contrast, some major hubs ranked among the least relaxing. London Stansted, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Chicago O’Hare, Manchester and Paris Orly were listed as the least relaxing airports in the study, reflecting longer waits, lower passenger satisfaction or more operational challenges.

These rankings highlight how factors like punctuality, queue management and passenger services influence travelers’ perceptions of an airport’s comfort. For travelers seeking a smoother experience, choosing airports with strong performance scores and positive passenger sentiment can make a noticeable difference to the journey.
