Marriott has refreshed 500 guestrooms across two properties in Costa Rica, introducing modern, luxurious designs inspired by local coffee culture, the coast and the rainforest. The renovations emphasize sustainable materials, improved functionality for business travelers and thoughtful connections to the destination.
At the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel San Jose, guestroom decor draws from regional and historic artwork as well as the nation’s coffee heritage. New furnishings are crafted from sustainably farmed solid maple, and bathrooms now feature walk-in rain showers. The updated color palette mixes warm browns, terracotta and deep crimson tones to create a sophisticated, inviting atmosphere.
Photographs of Costa Rican coffee plantations by local photographer Armando del Vecchio appear in the guestrooms, reinforcing the hotel’s connection to local culture. The property offers nearly 300 guestrooms, five restaurants, two pools, a spa, a fitness center and meeting and event spaces.
“The rooms are more versatile. The business traveler will have different options to work: in bed, on the sofa and at the desk. The number of connectivity ports was increased, and the desk is integrated into the television panel, where the guest can work, relax and eat comfortably. There are elements and special decorative details throughout the room. For leisure travelers, on the other hand, we offer a connection to the destination in every detail of the room,” said Dennis Whitelaw, country manager for Marriott Hotels.
The Los Sueños Marriott Resort has introduced designs that reflect ocean and rainforest views, with decorative elements created by national artisans. The color scheme is vibrant, using greens and reds to accent coffee and cream tones. Furnishings are made from sustainable wood and include new sofas with pull-out beds to increase flexibility for families and groups.
Sustainability upgrades at the resort extend to all guestroom bathrooms, which now feature low-water-consumption toilets, showers and faucets. Additional green measures include LED lighting and smart thermostats to reduce energy use.
“Marriott Hotels and their owners have a strong commitment to sustainability and the implementation of all possible green practices. In Costa Rica our two Marriott hotels are also certified with the highest Sustainability Rating by the National Institute of Tourism, and they also have the ecological Blue Flag award in the climate change category,” Whitelaw added.
Refurbishment work at the Los Sueños Marriott Resort is ongoing and is scheduled for completion in April. Together, these updates aim to blend modern comfort, practical functionality and thoughtful local touches while prioritizing sustainable practices across both properties.
