Maldives Golf Residency: Luxury Island Living for Golf Enthusiasts

In February 2019, the Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa will host a special golf partnership with Sky Sports commentator John E. Morgan. During his two-week residency, the former professional golfer will coach guests through private one-on-one lessons and group classes on the resort’s nine-hole course, which spans 7.5 hectares and features par-three and par-four holes.

The golf program blends individual instruction and group training with a variety of events and challenges. Guests receive personal training, attend group workshops and take part in tournaments and signature activities such as the Beat the Pro series, where participants try to hit a drive that lands closer than Morgan’s shot. In a playful twist, Morgan will perform some demonstrations using one hand to raise the competitive spirit.

Unique events round out the offering. The inaugural Mount Villingili Challenge invites competitors to hit specially designed golf balls into the Indian Ocean, testing distance and accuracy in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. That evening, a Dine by Design experience on Mount Villingili provides a memorable culinary finish to the day. The Stay & Play with John E. Morgan package is priced from $920 per person, per night and is available from Feb. 15–28, 2019.

Package inclusions are extensive and tailored to both improving play and providing relaxation. Participants receive a 45-minute private, personalized golf session with Morgan and two one-hour group golf workshops led by him. The itinerary also features one Beat the Pro session, a Tea & Tee experience that includes a round of golf for two followed by afternoon tea served on the course, and one Dine by Design dinner for two with wine pairing.

Wellness and recovery are integrated into the schedule: guests get a one-hour deep tissue acupressure golf massage and a yoga session to aid flexibility and focus. Daily breakfast is served buffet-style at Javvu restaurant, ensuring players are fueled each morning before heading out to the course.
