Lufthansa Expands Mediterranean Routes: New Destinations & Flights

Lufthansa is expanding its Mediterranean network by adding a new destination and increasing capacity to Athens. Starting 23 May 2015, the German carrier will launch nonstop service between Munich Airport and Heraklion International Airport on Crete, a favorite holiday destination for German and other European travelers. The route will operate once weekly on Saturdays using Airbus A320 aircraft.

In addition to the new Crete service, Lufthansa will boost summer connections to the Greek capital by adding two weekly flights between Munich Airport and Athens International Airport. With these extra frequencies, the airline will operate 23 weekly services between Bavaria and Athens during the peak season—comprising three daily flights plus two additional weekly rotations—aimed at improving tourist traffic and offering greater schedule flexibility for leisure and business passengers.
