Kempinski is expanding its footprint in Cuba with plans to develop the island’s first dedicated five-star resort.
For the past two years Kempinski has managed Cuba’s first five-star city hotel, the Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski La Habana. The brand’s next property, Cayo Guillermo Resort Kempinski, is scheduled to open in 2019.
Situated roughly 310 miles east of Havana, the resort aims to deliver secluded luxury on the tranquil island of Cayo Guillermo. Inspired in part by the area’s Hemingway connections, the development seeks to reflect the local character and natural beauty while providing guests with an intimate, refined experience.
The property will feature 245 guest rooms and suites, plus six over-water villas. Many accommodations will offer private pools and unobstructed ocean views, with the majority of standard rooms designed to look out over the sea.
Kempinski plans to emphasize a “barefoot luxury” atmosphere, combining relaxed, elegant design with a comprehensive range of amenities. Offerings will include spa facilities, yoga programs, varied dining options, extensive poolscapes, a kid’s club, fitness center, tennis courts, a lobby bar and a cigar bar.
“With Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski, we introduced the concept of luxury hospitality to the city of Havana and are honoured to have also been selected as management company for the first ever luxury resort in the country,” said Markus Semer, chairman of the management board and CEO of Kempinski Hotels.
The new resort is positioned to attract travelers seeking both authenticity and high-end comfort, blending local influences with international service standards to create a distinctive Caribbean retreat.
