Quirky is an understatement at the 5-star Silken Puerta America Madrid. The hotel’s exterior looks like a rainbow-colored high-rise anchored to the ground, its façade punctuated by a grid of windows and overlaid with a fragment of Paul Éluard’s poem “Freedom.” With such a bold exterior, the surprising and inventive design inside feels entirely intentional.
Check-in is digital and playful: guests choose their room from images on an iPad. Each of the hotel’s 12 floors was conceived by a different leading architect or design studio with the brief to challenge the senses. That directive is evident the moment the elevator doors open. The 12th-floor suites by Jean Nouvel are a visual feast, featuring luminous backlit installations that extend across ceilings and walls. Norman Foster’s second floor offers a calm contrast with minimalist materials—marble, wood and glass—arranged to soothe. On the 11th floor, Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas deliver a whimsical, through-the-looking-glass environment rich in pattern, color and texture.
Zaha Hadid’s Space Club rooms attract attention for their flowing, undulating surfaces and a dramatic monochrome palette of black or white, enhanced by color-changing Vortexx lighting. Practical features follow the design-forward thinking: instead of calling reception or hanging a Do Not Disturb sign, an LED display outside each door communicates guests’ requests to staff.
Design continues to shape the hotel’s culinary and social spaces. Christian Liaigre designed Restaurant Lagrimas Negras, where the interior’s refined aesthetic complements a menu that reinterprets traditional Spanish cuisine with creative touches. On the rooftop, the Skynight Bar—stamped with Jean Nouvel’s eclectic style—offers skyline views in an environment that keeps the hotel’s inventive spirit alive at every level.
The overall experience at Silken Puerta America Madrid blends bold contemporary architecture with thoughtful hospitality. From curated room choices at check-in to signature floors that read like a gallery of modern design, the hotel offers guests a memorable stay that engages sight, touch and atmosphere without sacrificing comfort.
