After check-in, a friendly attendant escorted me to the changing area where I slipped into a robe and slippers and felt even more relaxed.
I arrived early to enjoy Gem Spa’s complimentary 10-step hydrotherapy ritual, offered to guests who book treatments. After changing into my swimsuit, another attendant guided me into the aquatic sanctuary. I started in the aromatherapy steam room, filled with the scent of eucalyptus essential oil. Time moves differently in a spa, and here there was no need for a watch: attendants collected me at the right moment and led me through each hydrotherapeutic step.
Following the steam room I experienced a multijet shower that reawakened my senses, then a clay steam room believed to offer mineral benefits. I visited the ice room to close pores and stimulate circulation, spent time in the sauna for a natural cleanse, and rinsed under a cooling rain shower. Next came the hot whirlpool and a brisk polar plunge, then a slow walk through a shallow pebbled pathway where warm water jets massaged my feet and calves. Gem Spa’s hydrotherapy culminates in the “pool of sensations,” with bubbles, geysers and cascading waterfalls, plus an expansive relaxation lounge — but it was time for my treatment.
Tranquility flows through the spa’s two floors and 40,000 square feet, which house 26 treatment rooms. My therapist led me into a quiet treatment suite where warm wood tones, Italian mosaics and marble set a soothing tone before I settled onto the table.
Choosing a treatment was one of the few decisions I pondered. Inspired by the spa’s name, I selected one of the signature Gemstones Healing Wonders therapies: the Seventh Wonder Luxury Massage. During the 80-minute session my therapist placed seven quartz stones along the corresponding chakras and used aromatic oils to guide me into a deep, restorative state.
