Hyatt to More Than Double Its Canadian Hotel Footprint by 2028

Earlier this month Hyatt announced plans to more than double its presence in Canada, adding 12 new properties to its existing nine-hotel portfolio.

“There is tremendous growth opportunity in this region — coming off the heels of its 150th anniversary, Canada continues to see strong levels of leisure travel, as well as an increase in corporate travel. Today’s announcement is a testament to the global appeal of Hyatt’s select service portfolio as it continues to expand worldwide and offer more choices to our guests,” said Scott Richer, vice president of real estate and development for Canada at Hyatt.

All of the upcoming openings will be under the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House brands, both aimed at providing streamlined, comfortable stays for modern business and leisure travelers. The new properties will open over the next two years, expanding Hyatt’s footprint across several Canadian provinces.

Two Hyatt Place hotels are scheduled to open later this year in Calgary, Alberta and Mississauga, Ontario. Next year’s pipeline includes four Hyatt Place locations in Brampton, Ontario; Kelowna, British Columbia; Moncton, New Brunswick; and Winnipeg, Manitoba. That same period will also see two Hyatt House openings in Hamilton, Ontario and Winnipeg.

In 2020, Hyatt plans to add three more Hyatt Place properties in major urban markets, with openings planned in Toronto and Vancouver. The expanded portfolio is intended to meet rising demand from both leisure and corporate travelers and to offer consistent, service-focused accommodations in key Canadian destinations.

These additions reinforce Hyatt’s strategy of growing its select-service brands in markets that show steady travel demand and commercial opportunity. By concentrating on Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, the company aims to deliver familiar amenities, efficient service, and flexible room configurations that appeal to short- and extended-stay guests alike. As the new hotels open, travellers across Canada will have more options for reliable, midscale accommodations backed by Hyatt’s global standards.
