Hyatt has announced plans to open a hotel in Chongqing. The existing property is currently undergoing renovations and will be rebranded as a Hyatt early next year. The hotel is part of the Chongqing Metropolitan Oriental Plaza complex, which includes retail space, an office tower and serviced apartments.
Chongqing is a major transportation hub and a key economic center in China. The city led economic growth across 19 regions last year, and both domestic and international tourism to the area rose by about 20 percent over the same period.
“We are excited to further expand Hyatt’s brand footprint in Chongqing, a city with abundant tourism and economic growth,” said Christopher Koehler, vice president of operations and managing director for China, Hyatt. “The hotel is expected to join the World of Hyatt loyalty program on July 1, 2018, and to become part of our extensive network of hotels spanning more than 50 countries. We are very pleased to collaborate with Hui Xian REIT again, and we look forward to welcoming guests in the heart of Chongqing.”
H. L. Kam, chairman of Hui Xian Asset Management Limited, which owns the property, noted the long-standing relationship with Hyatt. “We have witnessed the role of Grand Hyatt Beijing in the success of Hui Xian REIT’s Beijing Oriental Plaza for the past 18 years,” he said. “I am very pleased to collaborate with Hyatt again in Chongqing and look forward to the launch of a Hyatt hotel in 2019 as an integral part of Chongqing Oriental Plaza, serving both tourists and the business community as the city continues to develop rapidly.”
