Hawaiian Airlines is introducing a new basic-economy option called Main Cabin Basic, set to launch in 2019. This new fare tier will sit alongside the airline’s existing offerings: Premium Cabin, Extra Comfort and Main Cabin.
Main Cabin Basic comes with several restrictions designed to offer a lower price point. Passengers traveling on this fare will board last, will not be able to make changes to their tickets or fly standby, and will not receive a seat assignment until check-in. In addition, Main Cabin Basic travelers will not earn bonus miles through Hawaiian Airlines’ frequent-flyer program.
Along with the new fare, Hawaiian Airlines plans to expand its route network in 2019 by adding two new nonstop flights: Boston (BOS) to Honolulu (HNL) and Sacramento (SMF) to Maui (OGG). These routes reflect the carrier’s effort to increase service to U.S. mainland cities and provide more options for travelers heading to Hawaii.
Hawaiian Airlines is also investing in upgrades at its Honolulu hub, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Planned improvements include new ticket counters, additional security checkpoints, updated gates and an enhanced baggage-handling system. The airline expects construction and renovation work at the Honolulu hub to be completed by 2021, improving passenger flow and operational efficiency.
By introducing Main Cabin Basic and expanding both routes and airport facilities, Hawaiian Airlines aims to offer travelers a wider range of price and service choices while preparing its infrastructure for future growth.
