Established in 1981 as a 20K race, the Yokohama event expanded to a full marathon in 2015. With organizers expecting around 25,000 runners, it ranks as the third-largest open-to-the-public marathon in Japan, after the Tokyo and Osaka marathons.
The Yokohama Marathon course showcases many of the city’s landmarks and waterfront scenery. Runners pass iconic sites and enjoy views of the Yokohama Bay Bridge, the Port of Yokohama, and the skyline of the central business district. Entry applications are open, with a limited allocation of slots reserved for non-Japanese participants from overseas on a first-come, first-served basis.
