Galei Kinneret Hotel Opens on the Sea of Galilee: What to Know

London-based Saar Zafrir Design has unveiled its latest restoration: the Galei Kinneret Hotel on the Sea of Galilee. Originally opened in 1946 as one of Israel’s first luxury hotels, the property has been sensitively restored and reimagined while retaining much of its historic character.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the feel of ancient ruins, Saar Zafrir Design preserved much of the original façade and introduced interiors that emphasize calm, light and natural materials. The renovation transforms the once-uninhabited building into a serene retreat that frames views of the Sea of Galilee while maintaining a clear link to the site’s history.

The hotel offers 123 guestrooms and suites, many with outdoor Jacuzzis, plus expansive windows that showcase views of either the Galilean mountains or the Sea of Galilee. Interiors follow a muted color palette punctuated by subtle gold accents, creating a refined, restful atmosphere throughout the rooms and public spaces.

Facilities are designed to enhance relaxation and well-being. Guests can enjoy an indoor and outdoor bar, an outdoor pool, a spa, a fitness center and an outdoor yoga deck. The property includes a private beach, boat access and an on-site synagogue. Notably, archaeological artifacts are displayed beneath the glass bottom of the outdoor pool, offering a striking connection between the guest experience and the region’s history.

The hotel’s airy lobby echoes the natural surroundings with soft tones, wood-paneled walls and linen-upholstered sofas with wooden accents. Lotte, the hotel’s restaurant named after original owner Lotte Eisenberg, serves European-inspired dishes infused with the flavors of Jerusalem. An outdoor dining area provides views over the private beach, creating an inviting setting for meals by the water.

With its careful balance of historic preservation and contemporary hospitality, Galei Kinneret Hotel offers visitors a tranquil base from which to experience the Sea of Galilee and the surrounding landscape. For reservations and more information, visit the hotel’s official website.
