Gaige House Ryokan Reopened: Restored Luxury Stay in Japan

The historic Gaige House + Ryokan in Sonoma Valley has been refreshed with a calm, Japanese ryokan-inspired design that highlights the property’s focus on wellness.

Of the 23 guestrooms, nine Ryokan Zen Suites incorporate authentic Japanese touches and amenities. Guests can enjoy wearing yukata robes, pairing traditional keta and zōri slippers with meditative playlists and a selection of Japanese treats such as green tea, saké, and mochi ice cream.

Rooms are appointed with king beds, fireplaces, private outdoor patios and granite soaking tubs accompanied by hinoki wood bathing accessories. Many suites offer views of the surrounding landscape and private karesansui rock gardens that encourage quiet reflection.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed in the main house with jasmine green tea and homemade matcha cookies. Each evening features a Magic Hour wine pairing, and complimentary nightcaps—saké, port, or sherry—are available in the lounge. Gaige House + Ryokan sits on Calabazas Creek in Glen Ellen, a short drive from Sonoma and Napa, making it a peaceful base for exploring the region’s vineyards and natural scenery.
