On the Ground: Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, I proceeded to Asiana Airlines’ first-class desk where I received prompt, professional service: my credentials were checked and my boarding pass issued without delay. I was particularly eager for my first experience in Asiana’s A380 first-class suite. An Asiana representative escorted me through security and to the first-class lounge. Over multiple visits I have found Asiana’s first-class lounge to be a peaceful, well-appointed space where travelers can work, recharge devices, relax, and enjoy a variety of food and beverages. I especially enjoy the steamed dim sum. After a short walk to Incheon Duty Free to pick up a few traditional items and gifts, I returned to the lounge until it was time to board. When boarding began, an Asiana agent personally accompanied me onto the aircraft and guided me to my first-class suite.
Pre-Flight: As I stepped into the cabin, the crew greeted me by name and offered reading material, including newspapers and Global Traveler magazine. They took my sport coat and offered a pre-flight drink — I chose Johnnie Walker Blue on the rocks — served with warm nuts. The beverage menu also included specialty cocktails such as Manhattans and mimosas. I planned to watch a movie during lunch and then make use of the full-flat suite to sleep en route to JFK.
In-Flight: First class on the A380 is positioned at the front of the lower deck and features 12 suites in a 1-2-1 layout. My seat was a single window suite on the left side. Each suite offers a sliding door for complete privacy and a spacious environment suitable for work, dining, or sleeping. The 32-inch entertainment screen is large and immersive, and I immediately connected the provided noise-reducing headphones and plugged in my laptop, ready to use the suite’s amenities once we reached cruising altitude.
The suite includes numerous storage compartments and an extended window-side shelf that is useful for personal items. The tray tables are large and sturdy, simple to deploy. Electronic controls are intuitive, and the audio-video on-demand system offers a wide selection of movies, shows, and music.
For lunch, the Western menu featured options like Wagyu beef and roasted chicken with caviar and other canapés as starters. I opted for the Korean Royal Cuisine selection: bibimbap topped with a poached king prawn. Bibimbap combines rice, assorted vegetables, and meat served with gochujang (Korean red pepper paste); it was fresh and well-presented. Dessert included fresh fruit and traditional Korean cookies.
Asiana’s cabin crew participate in several specialty teams to enhance the passenger experience. Onboard the flight I observed teams such as the Magic Team, which performs tricks to entertain children, and the Charming Team, which offers facial and manicure services. The Sommelier Team provides wine education and service — my flight attendant decanted a 2007 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Grand Cru (Burgundy) and discussed Asiana’s wine accolades. After lunch, I closed the suite door, reclined the seat into its fully flat position, and slept comfortably until a light breakfast was served before landing.
The Experience: Asiana Airlines consistently delivers attentive, polished service, and its cabin crew are widely regarded for their professionalism. Combined with the A380 first-class suite’s privacy, comfort, and thoughtful amenities, the overall journey feels like a well-crafted luxury experience that satisfies both leisure and business travelers.
