Sea Pines Resort, home of the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, will reopen on Sept. 22 and unveil upgrades to Heron Point by Pete Dye.
Heron Point, which was ranked No. 11 in GOLF Magazine’s 2014 list of “Best Courses Near You” in golf-rich South Carolina, has seen a series of thoughtful updates over the summer overseen by Pete Dye and his design team.
To enhance playability and maintain the course’s strategic character, the renovation focused on softening green surrounds and contours, enlarging several greens, and introducing ornamental landscape beds throughout the property. The putting surfaces have been converted to TifEagle Bermuda, the same turf used at the renowned Harbour Town Golf Links, providing a consistent feel and performance across the resort’s championship layouts.
Cary Corbitt, Sea Pines Resort’s vice president of sports and operations, said, “Our members and guests are going to love the changes made to Heron Point. The course is the ideal complement to Harbour Town and gives us two of the premier 18s in the region.”
The updates aim to make Heron Point more player-friendly while preserving the design intent and strategic challenge that define a Pete Dye course. Improvements to the greens and surrounds should offer more forgiving approaches, better recovery options, and enhanced turf conditions for putting year-round. The ornamental planting beds added around the routing also reinforce the resort’s distinctive coastal aesthetic and improve visual definition from tee to green.
With the reopening scheduled for late September, Sea Pines Resort will offer golfers access to both Heron Point and Harbour Town as fully restored, championship-caliber facilities. Together, they provide a complementary pair of 18-hole experiences—Harbour Town with its iconic, shot-making coastal design, and Heron Point with its refined, player-focused updates.
These improvements reflect Sea Pines Resort’s ongoing commitment to course stewardship and guest experience, combining modern turf technology and careful landscape work to maintain high playing standards while honoring the original architecture. Players can expect renewed consistency on the greens and improved playability across the layout when Heron Point reopens.
