Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort Review — Luxury Stay Guide

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: From the moment I arrived I was struck by the resort’s expansive open-air lobby, which frames sweeping views of the property down to the beach. To one side the lobby bar, Interlude, offers comfortable indoor and outdoor seating and an extensive wine list. On the opposite side the concierge greeted me warmly and directed me to the check-in desk.

After a welcome glass of Champagne, the front desk representative reviewed the resort’s amenities and helped configure my phone for the Wi-Fi. A staff member then personally escorted me to my room, making the arrival experience feel effortless and attentive.

GUEST QUARTERS: My second-floor room was one of approximately 500 across several buildings, overlooking one of the resort’s many pools. The queen-sized bed was exceptionally comfortable, but I found myself sleeping on the padded lounger on the private terrace for a couple of nights to enjoy the sounds and breezes of the outdoors. The terrace also included a whirlpool and additional seating for relaxation.

The bathroom featured a rain shower with excellent water pressure, a double vanity, a hair dryer and a steamer. An extra in-room phone, a soft robe and slippers added a touch of luxury and convenience.

SERVICES AND AMENITIES: With more than 20 restaurants and bars, the resort provides a wide array of dining options. My favorite was Tres Colores, which serves excellent Mexican dishes and the best frozen margarita I tasted on property. World Café delivers a high-quality international buffet with a variety of stations, and Spin proved ideal for watching Sunday football — the manager even located the Chicago Bears game for me. Later in the evening Spin transforms into a lively dance venue.

Beyond dining, the resort offers numerous pools, a lazy river and a large water slide. For more active pursuits there are basketball and volleyball courts, and a golf course for those who prefer it. In five days I couldn’t experience everything, but I sampled many of the options and enjoyed the variety.

On my final night the group gathered on a secluded stretch of beach for my niece’s wedding. The setting was beautiful and perfectly suited to the occasion. The couple celebrated afterward in a Preferred Club Master Suite, which featured a spacious seating area, scenic views and a colorfully lit dance floor—an ideal private space for a memorable reception.
