Delta Lets Passengers Use Portable Electronic Devices During Takeoff and Landing

Delta Air Lines is preparing to permit passengers to use portable electronic devices below 10,000 feet. The airline reports that all its aircraft have completed carrier-defined PED tolerance testing to confirm safe operation of personal devices throughout all phases of flight. Subject to FAA approval, the revised policy could take effect as soon as tomorrow.

Aligning with the FAA’s initiative to expand in-flight PED use, more than 570 Delta mainline domestic aircraft are equipped to allow customers to use e-readers, tablets, and smartphones—set to airplane mode—during taxi, takeoff, and landing on domestic routes. Delta Connection’s fleet of over 550 regional aircraft is expected to be compliant by the end of the year. In-flight Wi‑Fi service will remain available once the aircraft climbs above 10,000 feet.
