Cunard and The New York Times Launch The Crossword Crossing Cruise

Cunard and The New York Times have teamed up to mark the 75th anniversary of the New York Times crossword.

Passengers can put their crossword skills to the test aboard Cunard’s flagship, Queen Mary 2, during the special Crossword Crossing M745 sailing from New York to Southampton, England, departing Dec. 8.

The New York Times is one of the most esteemed news organizations in the world,” said Josh Leibowitz, senior vice president, Cunard North America. “We are proud to offer collaborations like this one, which give our guests extraordinary travel experiences they would not find elsewhere.”

The seven-night transatlantic voyage will feature crossword authorities from the newspaper, including Deb Amlen, Joel Fagliano and Ben Zimmer. These experts will lead daily game sessions, give talks and host other onboard activities focused on the history and craft of the crossword.

The first New York Times crossword appeared in 1942, published after the bombing of Pearl Harbor as a comforting diversion for readers. By 1950 the puzzle became a daily feature, and it has since remained one of the paper’s most beloved attractions.

An exclusive offer for this cruise includes a New York Times-hosted brunch with Puzzle Master Will Shortz. This special package is available only when booked directly through Times Journeys.
