ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: My husband and I arrived slightly before check-in for our one-night stay at Conrad New York Downtown. We drove into the city and used the hotel’s valet service, which made arrival smooth and effortless. The all-suite property features a dramatic atrium that fills the lobby with light and gives the space an unexpectedly calm, airy feel—almost not like Manhattan in the best possible way. We ran into friends at the front desk who were traveling with their dog; they were returning guests who appreciate Conrad’s pet-friendly amenities.

GUEST QUARTERS: Our Hudson River View King Suite had a spacious layout with a living area that included a sofa, a plush chair, a coffee table, a television and a desk. That space flowed into a bar area, then the bathroom and finally the bedroom. Sliding doors between areas made it easy to create privacy, and a touch-panel control listed lighting zones—hall, bar, bedroom—making operation intuitive.
The bar area included a Nespresso machine, a discreet Rocean water filtration system tucked inside a cabinet, a sink and a for-purchase minibar. As part of the hotel’s sustainability efforts we received two complimentary reusable water bottles to take home.
The bathroom featured Byredo bath products, a rainfall shower and a generous vanity. From the bedroom we had lovely views of the Hudson River, and blackout curtains ensured a restful night. The king bed faced a large television framed by a sleek closet. Overall the hotel was quiet and we weren’t disturbed by street noise. Although our stay was brief, the suite felt comfortable and welcoming.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: After dropping our bags, we met our friends at the lobby-level restaurant and bar, Atrio, for light bites and drinks. Our group of four sat at the bar and shared a bottle of wine from a sizeable list, along with hummus, cacio e pepe risotto tots and shrimp cocktail. We were in the city for a show and on a tight schedule, so we didn’t have time to use all of the hotel’s amenities, such as the fitness center, but Atrio provided a comfortable spot to relax before heading out.
Before the performance we had pre-show cocktail reservations at Leonessa, the hotel’s open-air rooftop bar on the 16th floor which opened in April 2025. Inspired by Italian aperitivo culture, Leonessa features bold color, lush greenery and a decorative working fountain. I ordered a spritz from the cocktail menu while we snacked on complimentary olives and cheese crackers. The weather was pleasant during our visit, and Leonessa’s retractable windows also make it suitable for year-round use in inclement weather.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- Consider Conrad Hotels & Resorts’ Conrad 1/3/5 program for curated experiences available in one-, three- or five-hour formats. At this location, the program includes a one-hour Italian cocktail and dinner pairing at Leonessa and Atrio.
- If you plan to drive, the hotel’s valet service is convenient and highly recommended. If you arrive by public transport, several subway lines are within a short walk.
- The neighborhood around the hotel is calm with several restaurants and shops nearby, but many close earlier in the evening. In-room dining ends at 10:30 p.m. and Atrio’s bar closes at midnight, so plan accordingly if you expect late-night options.
