Guests visiting the Conrad Indianapolis this fall will encounter an impressive display of modern art. The centerpiece is “Skyward,” a nearly 800-pound, 10-foot-high sculpture by artist Gino Miles, which will be installed on the property this month. In addition to the monumental sculpture, the installation includes seven other works by Miles, all presented as part of Long-Sharp Gallery/ModernMasters Fine Art owner Rhonda Long-Sharp’s lobby exhibition, A Toast to Modernism.
Gino Miles, a 60-year-old artist from New Mexico, draws inspiration from the natural landscape and its organic forms. He creates large-scale sculptures and public artworks that combine rugged materiality with refined, abstract shapes. Miles’ works are installed across the United States, including the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science; the Spencer Museum at the University of Kansas; Disney Corporate Headquarters; and public art collections in Cerritos and Napa, California, and Edmond, Oklahoma. His pieces are also featured at Western Kentucky University and in numerous private collections.
Long-Sharp’s A Toast to Modernism pairs Miles’ sculptures with a selection of works on paper by significant modern artists, offering visitors a concise survey of mid-20th-century modernism alongside contemporary sculpture. The exhibition includes pieces by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Henry Moore, creating a dialogue between influential modern masters and Miles’ contemporary interpretations of natural form.
The lobby installation invites hotel guests and visitors to experience art in a public, accessible setting, transforming the hotel lobby into a curated space where large-scale sculpture and intimate works on paper coexist. By situating art within the daily flow of the hotel, the exhibition aims to broaden exposure to modern and contemporary art beyond traditional museum walls.
Visitors interested in seeing the exhibition can view the works during normal hotel hours in the lobby. The combination of Miles’ dramatic sculpture and the accompanying drawings and prints offers a varied visual program that can engage both casual viewers and art enthusiasts.
