China Airlines Wins Grand Prize at the 2016 Rose Parade

China Airlines once again captured an international award at the 127thRose Parade on January 1, 2016. The float, titled “Venture to Majestic Taiwan,” celebrated the Flying Fish Festival unique to the Tao people of Lanyu and aligned with the Rose Parade’s overall theme, Finding Your Adventure.

The float measured 55 feet long, 35 feet high and 18 feet wide. Its hull was modeled after a balangay, the traditional plank-built boat of Lanyu. Electric simulation effects created the impression of the boat sailing through the waves, while the design featured Tao totems including wave carvings and flying fish motifs. In Taiwanese culture, the Flying Fish Festival reflects a deep respect for the environment and a commitment to ecological sustainability—values that mirror China Airlines’ focus on green energy, environmental protection and sustainable development.

Ten professional dancers performed as oarsmen on the float, and six China Airlines flight attendants engaged with parade spectators. Since debuting in the Rose Parade in 1987, China Airlines has received awards at the event for 25 consecutive years.
