Caught on Camera in Rotterdam: Secrets, Scenery & Street Life

Whether you prefer your martini shaken or stirred, immerse yourself in the world of James Bond at Designing 007: Fifty Years of Bond Style, currently on display at the Kunsthal Rotterdam through Feb. 8, 2015. The expansive exhibition showcases more than 500 items spanning five decades of Bond films, covering costume design, props, set design and visual concepts that shaped the franchise’s distinctive aesthetic.

Standout objects from the EON Productions archives include Roger Moore’s spacesuit from Moonraker (1979) and the white tuxedo he wore in Octopussy (1983), the Aston Martin DB5 that made its mark in Goldfinger and returned in later films, plus key props and gadgets that underline the series’ inventive approach to technology and design. The exhibit also features striking costumes such as Halle Berry’s orange bikini from Die Another Day (2002), as well as original storyboards, graphic designs and other production materials.

Beyond objects, the multimedia presentation examines Bond’s influence on travel, fashion, art, music and lifestyle, using film clips, photography and display installations to place the cinematic elements in cultural context. An illustrated catalog accompanies the show, with essays by exhibition curator and Ian Fleming biographer Andrew Lycett that explore the franchise’s history and design legacy.

Special events include Designing 007 Cocktail Evenings on Nov. 28 and Jan. 30, 2015, featuring music and extended opening hours until 7 p.m. The museum also offers support for private business meetings and small-group events held within the exhibition space, providing a stylish and memorable setting for corporate gatherings.

Whether you’re a film buff, a design professional or simply curious about how a cinematic icon shapes broader culture, Designing 007 offers a comprehensive, visually rich look at the style and craftsmanship behind one of cinema’s most enduring franchises.
