Tel Aviv–based architect and designer Alex Meitlis, who oversaw the original Hotel Calimala in Florence, developed a fresh visual identity for this Milan location. The hotel’s 88 guestrooms feature clean, elegant lines and a carefully chosen color palette of clay-pink, citrus orange and mint-blue. Rooms are furnished with custom pieces and distinctive lighting made from local materials, creating a warm, modern atmosphere.

On the ground floor, guests will find a wine and coffee bar with an outdoor terrace ideal for relaxing throughout the day. In spring, the hotel will open one of Milan’s few rooftop pools and its adjoining bar—a rare rooftop retreat in the city—alongside FIVE, the rooftop restaurant serving Mediterranean-inspired dishes prepared by hotel chef Moshiko Gamilali. Room service is available, and breakfast is served on the fifth floor.

The hotel offers six room categories: single, superior, deluxe, comfort, terrace suite and the penthouse suite. Each room type is designed to reflect the vibrant spirit of nearby Centro Storico, providing a comfortable base from which to explore Milan’s central attractions.

Interior photography and visual elements were curated in collaboration with paper artist Carmel Ilan, contributing to the hotel’s distinct and contemporary aesthetic. The property is the result of a Total Design Project: furniture, lighting and art pieces were custom-made to ensure a cohesive and intentional design throughout the hotel.

Porta Venezia today is recognized as Milan’s Rainbow District and is known for its welcoming, LGBTQIA+-friendly atmosphere. Via Lecco and nearby streets host a range of bars and restaurants with LGBTQIA+ themes and events. In 2019, following a Netflix Italia campaign tied to Milan Pride, the city’s mayor announced that Porta Venezia metro station would be designated as Rainbow Station under an agreement with the local metro service, reinforcing the area’s identity as an inclusive neighborhood.
