On March 29, British Airways began a new nonstop service between London Gatwick (LGW) and Tenerife South (TFS). Offering five weekly round‑trips on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, the carrier is currently the only airline providing business‑class seats on flights to and from Tenerife. The United Kingdom represents Tenerife’s largest overseas source market, with nearly 1.6 million British visitors to the island in 2012. Tenerife’s tourism minister, Carlos Alonso, said the new route will meet the needs of the island’s tourism industry—especially its four‑ and five‑star hotels—by attracting more high‑end and business travelers from Britain.
