Passengers at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) can now access up-to-date guidance for navigating the airport, including ground transportation countdowns and redesigned terminal maps shown on new digital displays.
Massport, which owns and operates Logan, has installed flat-screen digital signs in the Terminal B and Terminal C arrivals areas, the new Rental Car Center, and at 27 curbside locations to help travelers find their way and plan connections more easily.
Over the next two years, Massport will expand the system with flat screens in the new Terminal B connector, on both arrivals and departures levels in Terminal E, and in the international re-check area where arriving passengers connect to domestic flights. The airport also plans to equip all 20 baggage claim areas with digital displays.
“Giving passengers current information on their location and their wait time for ground transportation will allow our customers to make informed choices,” said Thomas P. Glynn, CEO of Massport. “We reached out to customers through focus groups and on-airport interviews to find out what information they value most.”
Massport will test several features on the digital signage over the coming year, including interactive touchscreen capability and real-time security checkpoint and taxi queue wait times. In addition, passport control kiosks in Terminal E are scheduled to come online later this year to streamline international arrivals.
The new digital signage aims to reduce uncertainty for travelers by presenting clear, timely information about arrivals, ground transportation options, and wayfinding within the terminals. By combining maps, countdowns and wait-time data, the airport seeks to improve passenger flow and support better decision-making for those connecting between flights or leaving the airport.
These enhancements are part of a broader effort by Massport to modernize passenger amenities and use technology to improve the travel experience at Boston Logan. Travelers should notice more consistent, easy-to-read information throughout the terminals as the rollout continues.
