Boingo Launches High-Speed Wi‑Fi Service at New Airports

Boingo has launched an upgraded airport WiFi service that delivers faster speeds—up to 20 Mbps—for subscribers and high-demand users at airports across the United States. This upgrade is part of Boingo’s S.M.A.R.T. network platform, which stands for Secure, Multiplatform, Analytics-Driven, Responsive and Tiered. The tiered network design lets travelers select from multiple speed options based on their needs. Power users who rely on airport WiFi for work can choose paid plans offering 20 Mbps to 50 Mbps, while all Boingo subscribers are provided the highest available speed at login. Non-subscribed passengers also receive a fast, reliable connection suitable for common travel needs.

“Our S.M.A.R.T. networks represent a revolutionary new approach to airport wireless networks,” says Nick Hulse, president of Boingo. “They provide a complete end-to-end solution for airports and passengers, delivering high-speed free WiFi for all and premium performance for power users. S.M.A.R.T. networks are built to scale for carrier offload and to handle the growing demands of apps, video and gaming, and they support seamless connectivity through Passpoint.”

The faster service is available now at seven U.S. airports: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Boston Logan International, Chicago Midway, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Boingo says more locations will be added in the near future to expand coverage and performance.

Thomas Bosco, director of aviation for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, emphasizes the importance of reliable connectivity for travelers: “Now, more than ever, connectivity is critical for travelers. With the launch of S.M.A.R.T., the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey now offers passengers one of the best WiFi networks in the world, including high-quality, free WiFi that our passengers expect. We are committed to giving a superior travel and technology experience to our mobile-savvy guests, and Boingo is helping us deliver better, faster and more secure wireless service for all.”

Boingo currently operates in nearly 60 airports worldwide and holds a leading position in airport WiFi. The company serves more than half of the top 50 airports in North America and over 30 percent of the top 30 airports globally, positioning it as a major provider of airport wireless connectivity.
