Aurora Expeditions Launches Two New Polar Itineraries

Aurora Expeditions has added two new itineraries to its 2020–21 Arctic program. The company invited clients to vote on potential routes, and the two most popular options have now been included in the upcoming season’s schedule.

The Iceland Circumnavigation is an 11-day journey departing on June 2, 2020, with both embarkation and disembarkation in Reykjavik. This itinerary circles Iceland’s coastline, showcasing dramatic landscapes such as fjords, glaciers, black-sand beaches and glacial lagoons. Wildlife highlights include birdwatching, whale sightings and a reindeer encounter. Active options like mountain hiking and sea kayaking are also offered to explore the island’s varied terrain up close.

The West Greenland Explorer is likewise an 11-day voyage, departing May 18, 2020, from and returning to Nuuk, Greenland. This route follows Greenland’s rugged coast, presenting opportunities to view icebergs and calving glaciers and to spot whales. An optional helicopter flight is available for an additional fee for those seeking a different perspective on the icy scenery. While in Nuuk, passengers visit cultural sites including the National Museum and the Nuuk Art Museum.

“Like the rest of the new 2020–21 program, the West Greenland Explorer and Iceland Circumnavigation expeditions have been carefully curated to give passengers the opportunity to explore rugged and far-flung destinations,” said Victoria Primrose, head of marketing and product at Aurora Expeditions. “On these expeditions, passengers will have life-changing interactions and encounter dramatic landscapes, discovering some of the world’s largest calving glaciers, beautiful ice fjords, black sand beaches, stunning waterfalls and glacial lagoons, among many other highlights.”

Both itineraries build on Aurora Expeditions’ focus on expedition-style travel, combining expert-led shore excursions with opportunities for wildlife viewing and active exploration. Travelers can expect small-group landings, guided hikes and interpretive talks that add context to the scenic and natural features encountered during each trip. The programs are designed to appeal to travelers seeking immersive experiences in remote northern environments, with choices for both relaxed sightseeing and more adventurous activities.

These additions expand the operator’s Arctic offerings for the 2020–21 season and provide new options for those looking to experience Iceland’s dramatic coastline or Greenland’s icy fjords and cultural centers. Passengers interested in either expedition can review the detailed itineraries and activity options to select the voyage that best matches their interests and activity level.
