American Airlines is responding to strong demand from West Coast travelers by launching a new nonstop route to the Caribbean. Beginning in December, the carrier will add direct service from Los Angeles to Montego Bay, Jamaica, improving access for Californians seeking tropical vacations.
“We are pleased that American Airlines has chosen to expand their service to Montego Bay with this new nonstop service,” said Paul Pennicook, director of tourism for Jamaica. “California is a notable market for Jamaica and the addition of this flight will increase the destination’s convenience to West Coast travelers. We’re delighted to work with American Airlines to help travelers discover Jamaica’s beautiful attractions and outstanding hospitality.”
Starting December 18, American Airlines will offer nonstop flights twice weekly from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay. The service will operate on Fridays and Saturdays using Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured with 160 seats, including 16 first-class seats. This schedule targets weekend travelers and provides a convenient option for West Coast residents looking for short, direct access to Jamaican beaches, resorts, and cultural attractions.
“As the premier carrier to the Caribbean, these new flights highlight our commitment to providing our customers with a network that is second to none,” said Art Torno, senior vice president International and Cargo at American Airlines. “We are committed to Jamaica and this new route will further promote travel and tourism to the country.”
The Los Angeles–Montego Bay connection supports Jamaica’s tourism growth by simplifying travel for West Coast visitors and expanding nonstop options between the western United States and the Caribbean. Travelers can expect the airline’s standard onboard services and amenities on the Boeing 737-800, which offers a mix of first-class comfort and economy seating.
This route addition is part of American Airlines’ broader strategy to strengthen its Caribbean network and respond to consumer demand for direct flights that reduce travel time and connections. By offering weekend departures, the airline aims to appeal to leisure travelers seeking short getaways as well as families and international visitors planning extended stays in Jamaica.
Montego Bay is known for its beaches, resorts, golf courses, and vibrant cultural scene, and increased nonstop capacity from Los Angeles is likely to support local tourism businesses and create easier access for US visitors. With the new twice-weekly service, travelers on the West Coast will have a straightforward, direct option to reach Jamaica for leisure travel and events.
Passengers interested in the new LAX–MBJ service should check American Airlines’ official schedule and booking options for exact flight times, fare classes, and any seasonal changes. The addition reflects ongoing airline and tourism partnerships aimed at expanding travel choices and improving connectivity between the western United States and Caribbean destinations.
