American Airlines Ends In-Flight Duty-Free Shopping – What Travelers Need to Know

Forget about picking up a last-minute gift on the flight home — at least if you’re flying American Airlines. The carrier suspended in-flight sales of duty-free merchandise last week and is currently removing merchandise, advertising and onboard catalogues.

Information on the airline’s website now reads: “Duty free shopping is no longer available on American flights.” The notice does not indicate whether US Airways will make a similar change.

Delta Air Lines ended its in-flight duty-free operation last year. Both American and Delta said disputes with their vendors were the reason for discontinuing the service.
